Tropical Storm Bill Pushing Ashore Over Eastern Texas

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Tropical Storm Bill could drop up to a foot of rain over eastern Texas.

At 2 p.m. the center of storm was over Matagorda Island, Texas, about 50 miles east-northeast of Rockport, Texas.

The hurricane, packing maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, was moving to the west at 9 mph.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Baffin Bay to High Island, Texas.

On the forecast track, the center of Bill is expected to inland over south-central Texas this afternoon and tonight. It is expected to weaken to a tropical depression tonight.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles from the center.

Bill is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 4 to 8 inches over eastern Texas and eastern Oklahoma and 2 to 4 inches over western Arkansas and southern Missouri, with possible isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches in eastern Texas.

Coastal flooding has already been reported along parts of the Upper Texas coast.
