Hurricane Gaston Drifting To The North

TRACKING HURRICANE GASTON

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Hurricane Gaston is expected to weaken as it drifts to the north.

At 5 a.m. Monday, the center of the Category 3 hurricane was about 575 miles east of Bermuda.

Maximum sustained winds were 115 mph with higher gusts.  Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles.

The system was barely moving to the north at 1 mph.

A turn toward the northeast and a faster forward speed are expected on Monday and an east-northeastward motion is expected on Tuesday. Additional slow weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

There are no watches or warnings posted for this storm.
