Tropical Storm Ida Picks Up Some Speed

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Tropical Storm Ida has picked up some speed as it heads west-northwestward with no change in strength.
At 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Ida was about 1115 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands.
The storm is now moving west-northwest near 14 mph with this general motion is expected to continue through Sunday. A turn toward the northwest with a decrease in forward speed is forecast Sunday night and Monday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 35 miles from the center.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 9 has dissipated.
The remnants are moving toward the west-northwest near 5 mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next day or two.
Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph with higher gusts. The remnants are expected to gradually weaken during the next day or two.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for either of them.
