Top 2014 Veterans Day Events In South Florida

With Veterans Day coming up, it's a wonderful idea to attend a special event in honor of the nation's veterans. While television offers ways to watch live televised programming of national events, there are also a number of worthy events around town. The family-friendly options include everything from a free concert to a picnic and parade. Even a charity golf tournament is included in the top events with proceeds benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.

Miami Beach is the site of a lovely Veterans Day event each year complete with a parade, ceremony and picnic. This year's event begins at 9 a.m. with a parade down South Beach's Washington Avenue, finishing up at the Flamingo Park Baseball Stadium. Parade participants include members of the Honor Guard, National Guard, veterans associations, The City of Miami Beach and more. The free event continues with a wreath laying ceremony and a special demonstration by the All Veteran Parachute Team.

The BattleFrog Obstacle Course offers a unique way to mark the holiday with a day of food, refreshments, demonstrations and Navy SEAL-inspired obstacle courses designed and operated by Navy SEALs. The family-friendly event offers a 15k race for adults and even the Tadpole Dash for children from ages 4 to 13. The goal is to overcome challenges and to encourage teamwork and cooperation. The company hires SEAL, SWCC and NSW veterans and contributes to NSW charitable organizations.

The Anda Veterans Day Golf Tournament is a four-person scramble game benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project. Participants enjoy breakfast, a special ceremony, the tournament and then a luncheon. The Wounded Warrior Project works to honor, empower and assist wounded members of the military. One hundred percent of the entry fees ($125 per person or $500 per team of four) and 50 percent of sponsor fees go to the charity.

Mizner Park Amphitheater will host the Florida Wind Symphony for a special concert for Veterans Day. The two-hour event is offered compliments to the public. The Florida Wind Symphony is a professional Ensemble-in-Residence at Florida International University. It will present "An American Tribute" at the Mizner Park Amphitheater Veterans Day event.

The one-hour ceremony will feature city officials as well as veterans groups. Drills will be presented by Boca Raton Police, Fire Honor Guards and the Boca Raton Community High School NJROTC. Music will be provided by the Ft. Lauderdale Highlanders and the event will be supported by volunteer service by the Boca Raton Kiwanis. The morning event is a great way to show honor and respect.
