Report: Miami-Dade College Will Likely Keep Accreditation
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Just days after reports first surfaced that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools was weighing Miami-Dade College's accreditation, some experts are saying there's no chance the SACS would strip the school of its accreditation.
According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, a spokesperson for the American Association of Community Colleges said the group couldn't recall a single community college losing accreditation in the last 16 years.
The problem the SACS cited when it put MDC on warning was that the school didn't have enough full-time professors to deal with the constantly growing student body.
But, the Herald reported Friday that there are no specific numbers or ratios for the full-time faculty rules meaning there is great debate over what an "adequate" number of full-time professors actually means.
