Top Activities For Kids In South Florida Over Thanksgiving Weekend

Boomers is an excellent place for kids and teens of all ages. The facilities feature a roller coaster, bumper cars, laser tag and other active rides as well as an entire warehouse-sized facility of video games. There are several food and beverage options on site as well as wonderful prizes that may be won with tickets received from activities. Boomers is conveniently located between Fort Lauderdale and Miami off of the I-95 Interstate Highway.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, Miami Children's Museum is open (though not on Thanksgiving Day) for an educational and interactive experience. The two-story museum is filled with stimulating exhibits such as a sandcastle with sand from around the world, a nutrition and exercise center, a teddy bear workshop and a pet education area. The museum's schedule lists the cool daily activities for kids that include relay races, yoga and Frisbee-making classes. Until January, there's a 2,500-square-foot prehistoric exhibit featuring lifelike, robotic dinosaurs.

The kids can let off steam and burn those Thanksgiving calories on the Friday after the holiday at ArtsPark at Young Circle. The popular Hollywood, FL park features art installation playground equipment for children and a host of fun for the children every Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free and it's a great place for kids to make new friends and for parents to meet other parents in the community. The entertainment includes arts and crafts projects, face painters, clowns, a bounce house and more.

Dandy Bear is an active and exciting indoor playground for young children with the on-going theme of a fun party for kids. Open every day of the year, Oleta River State Park is a great place to keep the kids active over the weekend of feasting and overindulging. The beautiful park features bike trails of varying difficulty levels, a beach, a river, nature trails and a mangrove forest. Activities abound at the park with guests coming for everything from sports to kayaking. Cabins are available for overnight stays and they may be booked in advance online.
