FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Governor Ron DeSantis will be back in South Florida on Friday.

His office confirmed that DeSantis will be making a statement on “holding government officials accountable.”

The event will take place at Broward Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Fort Lauderdale at 3 p.m.

While the press release doesn’t give details, it’s believed that DeSantis will be suspending Broward Sheriff Scott Israel.

Sources have told CBS4’s Jim DeFede that DeSantis will indeed remove Israel from office on Friday afternoon.

Stuart Kaplan, Sheriff Israel’s attorney tells CBS4 that they’ve heard nothing from the Governor or his office, but based off the Governor’s comments this week and his announcement of coming down to South Florida, they anticipate a decision to be announced tomorrow regarding Sheriff Israel.

While campaigning last year, DeSantis said on multiple occasions that Israel should be suspended for how he and his office handled the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

DeSantis will be joined by Lt. Governor Jenaette Nunez and Attorney General Ashley Moody.

This is like kicking the cat because the dog peed on the floor. The majority of the responsibility should be on the school and school board for it’s failure to secure the premises and after numerous occasions and opportunities failure to identify Crews as a potential threat to students and faculty. Actually a unarmed security guard saw Cruse interring the campus carrying the rifle in a bag and went to get help. Imagine yourself going into a situation like this, uninformed and unaware of what was actually gong on behind closed doors. I am sure most of us would be making tracks in the other direction to start with. Now imagine your a teacher who is allowed to carry and you are responding to the shooter, the police bust in see you with the gun and blow your head off. It’s coming.
