TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - Anticipation is building for Friday night's Mega Millions drawing with the game's largest jackpot ever - a billion dollars.

A lone winner would take home a cash lump sum of $565 million.

The jackpot has been rolling over since it was last won on July 24, when a California office pool of 11 co-workers shared $543 million, the largest prize ever won on a single ticket in the game.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU WIN THE LOTTERY

Three other Mega Millions jackpots have been won this year – $451 million on January 5 (Florida), $533 million on March 30 (New Jersey), and $142 million on May 4 (Ohio).

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot with a $2 ticket are 1-in-302.5 million.

Drover Trujillo, who bought his tickets at an Exxon station in Doral, said he plans for the money if he wins.

"Pay off some bills. We just bought a house this year, so pay that off. And I have three kids, so I'll invest in them," he said.

Another man buying tickets said he would be smart about it.

"I don't know, but it's a lot of money so we got to think about. Got to call an accountant first," he said.

CBS4's Gary Nelson said he knew the odds of winning were really, really remote - but couldn't resist when he got to the counter.

"It is a sucker's bet. Give me a Mega Millions quick pick, would ya," he told the clerk.

And right behind him, CBS4's Jim DeFede.

"But of course, if I win, I'll still come to work tomorrow," he said with a wink in his eye.

Lines formed at gas stations with the hopes of soon living a life of luxury. Mega Millions turned Mega Billion fever was felt across the nation, where some people waited two hours to get a ticket.

"I only bought one ticket because that's all I need to win, is one," one man said.

While waiting to win big, many people had time to think about what to do if they hit the jackpot. It's something that hasn't been done with Mega Millions since July 24th.

"He needs to help some people. The poor people," a customer at a Doral gas station said.

If you're disappointed, don't be. The odds of winning was one in 302 million. A person is 80 times more likely to be killed by a shark. However, some people Friday felt they could beat the odds.

If nobody wins, the next estimated jackpot will be $1.6 billion which would be the largest in United States history.

There also another large jackpot in the mix this weekend.

The Powerball jackpot now stands at $470 million The chance of winning the Powerball jackpot is 292.2 million to one.

You can watch the Mega Millions drawing Friday night and the Powerball drawing Saturday night during the 11pm news on CBS4, your official lottery station.
