HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – A security guard in Hollywood is fighting for his life following an altercation with a coworker that ended in gunfire.

The family of Wilner Duce, 49, said he's in critical condition at Memorial Regional Hospital. He has lost a kidney after getting shot, family claim, and there is damage to his pancreas, as well.

Another security allegedly pulled the trigger.

"It's terrible. He's a handsome person, he's calm. He never had a problem with anyone," said Antoinine Pompee, Duce's aunt.

Duce, who is from Haiti, loves working in security and has two jobs to support his family, they said.

"He's a good man," said his cousin. "He has a wife. He is married, he has two beautiful children."

CBS4 reporter Peter D'Oench spoke with loved ones at Duce's North Miami home. His wife remains by his side at the hospital.

"I feel bad. I feel bad," said his wife, over the phone. "He's lost his left kidney."

Police said the security guards at the City of Hollywood Water Treatment Plant work for Regions Security Service of west Miami-Dade.

Officers arrived at the scene and confiscated firearms and took the shooter into custody, while trying to sort out what happened around 7 a.m. Sunday, just blocks from the police department.

"Some sort of altercation between security guards and one of them did fire his weapon at the other," said Hollywood Police Ofc. Christian Lata.

According to another employee at the plant, Duce has been a security guard for 10 years. That person said Duce was shot after he criticized the other guard repeatedly being late for work.

Police, however, have not confirmed that.

Charges are pending.
