MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Hialeah couple accused of physically injuring their twins has been taken into custody.

Adrian Cordovi, 23, and the children's mother, 27-year-old Dayana Sosa, have been charged with five counts of child abuse.

Both appeared in bond court Friday, where a judge was disturbed by the injuries to the children.

"There's also two separate rib fractures and multiple fractures of the right tibia," Judge Mindy Glazer said.

Cordovi and Sosa brought their 2-month-old daughter to Nicklaus Children's Hospital because she wouldn't stop crying when her right leg was touched.

The pediatrician who examined her found that the girl had an acute fracture in her right tibia and two separate rib fractures, all in different stages of healing.

When the doctor was told the girl had a twin brother, he was examined as well. The boy also had multiple fractures to the right tibia, all in different stages of healing.

Realizing the fractures were consistent with child abuse, the police were notified and Cordovi and Sosa were arrested.

At a hearing, Dr. Walter Lambert testified the couple's daughter was in acute pain from a series of injuries and fractures.

Judge Mavel Ruiz found probable cause for the state to temporarily shelter the children.

Their great aunt, Miladys Perez, stepped forward to take care of them.

However, Judge Ruiz ruled they would remain in temporary foster care while there's an investigation and home study of the great aunt and a standard drug test.

The parents' attorneys asked that the parents be allowed to have temporary visitation, but the judge said no.

Outside court, then attorneys declined to say anything.

In bond court, Judge Mindy Glazer had ordered that the parents, once they are released on bond, stay away from their children.

Perez told CBS4's Peter D'Oench she did not want to say anything. She may be given temporary custody after the home study is done by another hearing on January 3.

The couple walked out of jail at 8 p.m.

"I can personally tell you that I was at the hospital seeing these children they were well-nourished, no bruises," their attorney, Max Adams, said. "The little boy was smiling, the daughter was sitting in the mother's lap."
