MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Reports of creepy looking clowns lurking in parks, woods and by road sides have been popping up across the country.

While there have been no such sightings in South Florida, the Miami Police Department has put out a video of how something that some people would see as funny is actually very dangerous.

In the video, a boy and his mother are out after dark and she tells him they have to go. That's when a clown wielding a large knife pops out of the bushes and scares them. In his effort to get a away the boy stumbles onto a street in the path of an oncoming car.

A Miami police officer then appears and says clown pranks are not funny.

"First off, you can be arrested for these pranks. Second, if somebody gets injured as a result of your prank, you could be sued. And third, the person that you are pranking might take measures into their own hands to defend themselves and you might wind up getting hurt," he says.

Nationwide, at least a people have been arrest for taking part in creepy clown stunts or making false police reports.

With Halloween two weeks away, Miami police say they are taking all pranks seriously.
