OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) -- Just after midnight Friday, Broward Sheriff's deputies showed up to Lake Pointe condos in Oakland Park after reports two people had been shot.

"Once deputies arrived, they found a man outside the apartment building had been shot. They went inside the apartment and found a second victim. That man, unfortunately, died on scene," said Gina Carter with the Broward Sheriff's Office.

People who live in the gated community on NW 44th Street, right across from Boyd Anderson High School, were surprised as they woke up to the huge mobile crime scene unit, yellow crime scene tape and investigators gathering evidence just outside their doors.

"I saw there was a lot of cops. I was here to post a three-day notice and they were saying it was over there," said resident Kaleen Joseph.

"I just came out to go to work early this morning and the chaos was out. I saw the yellow tape, so I just went the opposite way," said resident Corey Greene.

The guarded condos are surround by a serene lake. Neighbors said it's usually quiet there.

A double shooting overnight, and how the shooter, or shooters got in, is a worrisome mystery.

"I'm not surprised. This community's kind of (gestures). So, I don't know. I don't know," said Joseph.

"The way that this date and time is going, I'm not surprised," said Greene.

Meantime, investigators continue to put together the pieces of this violent crime.

The one survivor is at the hospital in pretty bad shape with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies are urging anyone with information to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
