WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A former Delray Beach doctor has been sentenced to five years in prison in connection with the overdose death of one of his patients.READ MORE: Celtics run past Heat 93-80, move 1 win from NBA Finals
On Wednesday, Barry Schultz pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the death of 50-year old David Tain.
Investigators said Schultz, 60, prescribed a “reckless” amount of methadone to Tain in 2010. Tain died three days later.READ MORE: South Florida family knows firsthand effects of nationwide baby formula shortage
The five year prison sentence will run concurrently with a 25-year sentence he’s already serving for drug trafficking crimes. A jury in November found Schultz guilty of prescribing as many as 20,000 narcotics pills to patients who came to his office complaining of pain.
