MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- They are the all new Ghostbusters! Four fresh faced,  funny females who are taking the franchise in a new direction and on a new adventure.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are the team who are out to save the world in the new flick.

"The chemistry was there from the beginning so it was great as we can read each other so well," said McCarthy. "To come in day one and to have all four of us know each other so well...it just felt so easy."

It was fun and games but not all pain-free.

CBS4's Lisa Petrillo asked the four ladies if they received any bumps and bruises during the non-stop action scenes.

"Yes, mostly from each other's packs...because they were sharp  and heavy and always in the way," said Wiig. "They were heavy and steel and we were always slamming into each other and poor Kristin was a like a magnet for the bumps," said McCarthy.

"It was heavy and the metal was sharp and I  had my chiropractor on set and had to get adjusted all the time," said Jones.

Director Paul Fieg took a lot of heat at first - ruffling feathers for making a sequel to the beloved franchise and then making the four leads women.

For him, it was all about making a very funny movie.

"We got caught up in a controversy from the outset and I knew how silly that was. When you see the movie, you'll see you're going to laugh your head off," said Fieg. "You just want a movie to be a fun event and that's all we can do is make people have a good time."

For McKinnon who plays the mad scientist named Holtzman, it's a break-out role showing just how "out there" she can be and loving every minute of it!

"It's been an insane whirlwind and the greatest thing I ever did. I thank the world for you," McKinnon said while kissing Jones' hand.

Ghostbusters is out in theaters Friday.
