At Least 5 Veterans Groups Got Trump Donations Last Week

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Donald Trump is defending the fundraiser he held for veterans held this winter ahead of the Iowa caucuses.  He says the press was wrong to question him about the money raised.

Trump says the press was wrong to probe him about where donations went from a fundraiser he held for veterans groups.

"Everyone is saying who got it, who got it, who got it, and you make me look very bad," said Trump.

He says he raised $5.6 million for 41 organizations.

As of Wednesday morning, CBS News has verified 32 of those donations that total $4.4 million dollars. At least five of them received the money last week after the press started asking questions including Trump's own pledge of one million dollars.

That wasn't lost on his likely Democratic opponent.

"He's bragged for months about raising $6 million for veterans and donating a million dollars himself. But it took a reporter to shame him into actually making his contribution," said Hillary Clinton in a CNN interview.

Clinton leads Trump in the latest national poll - 45 to 41 percent.

Clinton still hasn't won the Democratic nomination. She'll head west to California where her opponent Bernie Sanders has made big gains.

"Secretary Clinton is getting nervous. I don't want to get her more nervous.  But if you don't tell anybody, I think we are going to win here in California on June 7th," said Sanders

Clinton says her campaign has been in contact with the Sanders camp about unifying the Democratic party after the primaries are over.

Trump did pick up a new endorsement - one he probably won't be bragging about.  North Korea created a propaganda website endorsing Trump, saying he is not the "screwy, ignorant candidate" he's made out to be.  It also called Hillary Clinton, "thick headed."
