PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) -- The murder of Miami Dade Corrections Officer, Daveon Hall, remains unsolved.

His mother, Barbara Drummond, is hoping that an increased reward in the case of $10,000 will encourage people with information to come forward with tips.

"I'm begging, I'm pleading to my community that if they know something, if they hear something, just please go to the police," Drummond told CBS 4's Carey Codd.

Hall was an accomplished man - a Miami Dade corrections officer, an athlete and a musician. Drummond cannot imagine who would want to take his life.

"We don't know why," she said. "We don't know who. And it's very painful. Very, very painful," said Drummond.

Pembroke Pines police say someone murdered Hall inside his Pembroke Pines apartment last January. His mother made the discovery when he didn't show up for work.

"It's like a bottomless pit," she said, describing her feelings. "There's no beginning and no ending for my feelings on a daily basis."

Police tell CBS 4 News they do not believe the murder is related to Hall's job as a corrections officer. They have released few other details as they search for the killer.

Drummond says her son was a happy person, who made it his goal to keep young people from winding up behind bars.

"He mentored children," she said. "The kids in the community. He wanted to make sure he taught them the right thing to not get caught in wrongdoing."

Drummond says her son dreamed of becoming a firefighter. She also said it's painfully ironic that Hall's father Derrick was also murdered at age 40 in South Florida and his murder also remains unsolved. Drummond is hopeful someone hears her plea for justice.
