NORTH MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) -- The debate stage is set for democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders and here at Miami Dade College students are ready to welcome them.

"I'm honored to be part of this school and to be part of this event tonight," said MDC student Christopher Malik.

"I'm really excited about it," said Jonathon Diaz. "That's why I'm wearing my MDC shirt today."

Diaz and his friends understand they play a key role in the election process.

"It's not the fact that we're the future," said Malik. "We're the starting of the next future that's coming up."

Miami Dade College is a popular stop for candidates.

"For us to be able to host the debate, it doesn't get much better than that. It's education at its best," said MDC President Dr. Eduardo Padron.

Padron says for years all the big names have made visits, including presidents and heads of state. Even in this election cycle, this is where it all began for two Florida candidates.

"Both Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio decided that this was the right place for them to be able to announce their intentions to run for president," said Padron. "That happened right here at this college."

For students and Miami-Dade, it gives them a front row seat to presidential politics.

"It gets real. It gets very real," said Padron. "Not just reading in books, reading in newspapers or watching on TV. It's face to face interaction."
