Thousands Take Advantage Of Early Voting In Dade, Broward

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Hoping to avoid the long lines on election day, South Florida residents are taking advantage of the early voting period for the state's Presidential Preference Primary.

In Broward, where early voting kicked off over the weekend, 16,405 ballots were cast at voting sites across the county. The county's elections department reports as of Sunday, March 6th, 54,637 absentee ballots had been returned.

In Miami-Dade, where early voting is entering its second week, the elections department reports 30,171 have cast ballots at voting sites since February 29th. An additional 87,990 absentee ballots have been returned.

Voters can select any polling location within the county they live in to cast their ballot, rather than the designated station in their neighborhood.

When you go to vote, please bring your voter's identification card and one of the following IDs:

  • Florida Driver's License
  • Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
  • United States Passport
  • Debit or credit card
  • Military identification
  • Student identification
  • Retirement center identification
  • Public assistance identification
  • Neighborhood Association identification

If you do not have a valid ID, you may be asked to vote using a provisional ballot.

The early voting period ends March 13th.

Florida's Presidential Preference Primary Election is Tuesday, March 16th. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
