MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- Miami Heat legend and NBA Hall-of-Famer Alonzo Mourning hosted his inaugural Youth Summit Groove on the campus of Florida Memorial University Friday.

It's all part of his annual Winter Groove event being held this weekend.

"It's a lot tougher than when I was growing up. It was a lot easier to be a kid but now you have so many obstacles and distractions that a lot of these kids have to overcome. They have to get a lot faster than we did," said Mourning.

The 2nd annual Zo's Winter Groove kicked off Friday morning for more than 400 high school students across Miami-Dade County. It gave students a chance to have fun and engage in conversation about things like career and education opportunities, sports, social media distractions, bullying and other hot topics trending in today's culture.

Along with his Mourning Family Foundation, Zo hosted the event along with comedians Chico Bean and Darren Brand from season 7 of Nick Cannon's Wild N' Out, at the Lou Rawls Center for Performing Arts.

"The focus is on making sure that we continue to enhance the lives of the young people providing information so they become positive community citizens," added Zo.

The Family Health and Fitness Groove will take place Saturday with activities including a 5K walk/run, Zumba and Yoga classes, as well as health screenings and sports clinics at Miramar Regional Park.

On Sunday, Zo's Comedy Groove will take the laughs to the J.W. Marriot Marquis in Miami.

It's a change from the music concerts we're used to seeing in the past. For the second year, an all-star lineup of comedians will take the stage, hosted by funnyman Cedric the Entertainer.

Fast forward to Monday when the Hall of Fame Golf Groove will tee off at the Turnberry Isle Golf Club in Aventura.

Tickets this weekend are still available at zoswintergroove.com.
