KEY LARGO (CBSMiami) - Sheriff's deputies in the in the Keys will be keeping a lookout now through New Years Day for drivers who've had a little too much holiday cheer.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says they will be out in force watching out for drunk and unsafe drivers during the holidays with the goal of making sure holiday travel is as safe as possible.

Deputies will be concentrating their efforts on drunk drivers, improper passing and other unsafe driving practices.

The sheriff's office suggests that before attending special holiday events designate a sober driver. If they don't have a designated driver, tipsy revelers are urged to take a cab home or back to their hotels.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin adds if you drink and drive and get caught, you will be spending the night in jail.
