Single Mother Needs Help Bringing Holiday Cheer To Disabled Son

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – Every year, CBS4 News' Neighbors 4 Neighbors program pairs up hundreds of families in need with sponsors who can help them out and this year is no different.
But a few families remain without a sponsor with about a week to go before Christmas.
One of those families is Stephanie Moore and her son, Dharmaniyah Moore.
"The help is much-needed for him," said Stephanie.
The holidays are an especially tough time for the Plantation mother, who has a hard time covering her disabled son's medical expenses, much less buying presents for Christmas or for his birthday two days before that.
"I can't buy him anything. As you can see, you've got a Christmas tree here with no gifts," said Stephanie.
A shooting in Miami Gardens forever changed Dharmaniyah's life.
CBS4 News has been following his story since that summer when he was hit by a stray bullet in a drive-by shooting.
"He was a normal 12-year-old who liked to skateboard and since he'd been shot, he can't do anything. He has 24-hour nursing," said his mother.
Dharmaniyah's medical care has been financially straining for his single mother.
She's now turning to CBS4 News' Neighbors 4 Neighbors "Adopt-A-Family 4 the Holidays" program.
One thing Dharmaniyah can do is use his hands, so his mother is asking for a computer with a mouse, headphones for him to listen to music, clothing and money for his medication.
She's also hoping someone will help them get a bigger place.
"If there's anyone out there who can help us, maybe donate us a home... because Dharmaniyah is in the living room. It's a one-bedroom apartment. All his stuff is in the living room," said Stephanie. "And also, if someone could help me with the wheelchair equipment van because when I take him to the doctor, sometimes we're sitting out there three hours or more for them to pick us up."
