Winderman: 'I Think There's a Lot to' The Mario Chalmers Trade Rumors
Is there any substance to the Mario Chalmers-to-Memphis reports that surfaced yesterday?
"I think there's a lot to it, Joe, when you look at the backup point guards there -- it's Beno Udrih and it's Russ Smith," the Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman said on the Joe Rose Show. "I always said I think Mario is a competent backup. I think a change of scenery would be good for him with some of the roller-coaster stuff he's gone through so that makes sense but for the Heat they can't take anyone back in return so there has to be a third team involved."
Winderman questions whether the Heat will be comfortable with the team's guard depth if Chalmers is moved. Outside of starter Goran Dragic is second-year guard Tyler Johnson and rookie second-rounder Josh Richardson.
Chalmers is averaging 5.5 points, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals this season while shooting 29 percent from the field and 11 percent from beyond the arc.
