LAKE WALES (CBSMiami/AP) — Authorities have arrested a man they said used a sledgehammer to beat two dogs.

Polk County Sheriff’s officials say an anonymous tipster helped them locate 49-year-old Tad Whitworth on Saturday.

Whitworth is charged with two counts of animal cruelty for allegedly beating the two dogs.

The animals’ breeds and conditions were not known. It’s unclear if the dogs belonged to Whitworth.

He was arrested without incident at a home near Lake Wales. Authorities say he’s slated for a first appearance Sunday morning.

The two dogs are now in the care of the SPCA of Lakeland.
