PARKLAND (CBSMiami) --  A group of South Florida students lined up Monday morning and started forming themselves into a peace sign.

The beginning formation of the sign, seen from above at Mary Help of Christians School in Parkland, was meant to celebrate World Peace Day. The day is meant to promote peace and friendliness between all nations in the world.

Chopper was over the scene as dozens of students could be seen getting together and starting to form the peace sign.

The students joined together during the school's morning assembly where each of them was given a biodegradable dove-shaped balloon where they wrote prayerful intentions.

They later released the balloons while a student read a poem about world peace as a choir sang "Let There Be Peace on Earth."

The students also prayed for Pope Francis as he prepares to come to the United States later this week.
