COOPER CITY (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free gun safety course for children Tuesday night.

Accidental shootings are a tragedy which happen all across the country–three of which happened in the last week in South Florida, one where a 14-year-old lost his life.

In an effort to prevent these tragedies, BSO is hosting the course Tuesday from  7 to 9 PM at 10580 Stirling Road for children ages 11 to 14.

The free course will touch on: safety rules for secure handgun storage, responsibilities of owners to properly secure and store the firearms, dangers of toy guns vs. real guns, and a review of scenarios dealing with finding firearms in homes and presenting them in public.

Parents are encouraged to attend with children.
