MIAMI (CBSMiami) – CBS4 would like to congratulate anchor Eliott Rodriguez for being named the best television news anchor by the Miami New Times.

Every year, the folks at New Times compile a list of "the best and brightest that Miami has to offer."

So in the TV News category, CBS4's Eliott Rodriguez rose to the top of the list for his handling of 2014's "Fangate."

Remember "Fangate?"

That's when Florida Gov. Rick Scott wanted to cancel a statewide-televised gubernatorial debate if Charlie Crist was allowed to use a small electric fan to keep him cool at the podium.

CBS4's Eliott Rodriguez, who was the moderator, kept his cool during the debacle and calmly handled the situation with poise and professionalism.

Eliott, who anchors the CBS4 News at Noon and 6PM, is an Emmy Award winning journalist and respected news anchor. He's also won four Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in journalism.

He's worked at CBS4 for 16 years but prior to that, has worked for almost every major newspaper and TV news station in Miami.

His career has spanned three decades and includes coverage of major stories in the United States, Europe and Latin America.

The Miami News Times said of Eliott Rodriguez, "With decades of experience covering every single area of Miami, Rodriguez is like the godfather of local TV news."
