MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami Dade police say a man shot and killed his wife Friday morning in front of the 7-11 store they owned on NW 103rd Street near 5th Avenue.

A yellow tarp covered the woman's body in her car at the curb facing the entrance to the convenience store.

"I hear shots ringing out and I look to the right and I see the guy standing outside of the car shooting at his wife," said John Brion who had pulled in for gas.

After killing his wife, the accused shooter was taken to the hospital complaining of chest pain. He was subsequently released and interviewed by homicide investigators.

"Oh my God they were good people," said Caridad Lopez, a regular customer. "They were always attentive and affectionate towards each other."

Recently, however, the relationship apparently developed trouble.

Yvonne Barnes' daughter, who was working in the 7-11, told her mother she saw the victim moments before the shooting.

"The lady just came in and hugged her, and told her that he just wasn't going to be nothing if she left him," Barnes quoted her daughter as saying. "I understand they just had a fiery argument the other day. My daughter came home and told me."

After the shooting one witness said the husband smashed the passenger side window of the car and threw the gun inside.

Witnesses said he was screaming and cursing.

"The guy called the cops himself, so they got here pretty quick," said Brion. "As soon as they got here, he threw himself on the floor and surrendered."

Miami Dade police Detective Daniel Ferrin said, with all the shots that were fired in broad daylight on a workday, it's a wonder no one else was hit.

"You have employees, you have patrons," Ferrin said. "It was very chaotic."

Police have not yet identified the victim or her husband.
