The company said the 2 gigabit per second service will allow users to download a HD movie in 12 seconds, a TV episode in two seconds and an album in less than a second.

“The Internet is constantly evolving and broadband is truly a platform for innovation. Gigabit Pro makes it possible to deliver a level of speed directly to homes that was simply not possible before,” said Comcast regional Vice President Amy Smith in a statement.

Speeds for the Gigabit Pro service will be the same for uploads and downloads. Gigabit Pro will be available to any home within close proximity of Comcast’s fiber network and will require an installation of professional-grade equipment.
