MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) --  Miami Beach is offering its patrons a free form of protection from the sun.

The city is installing 50 sunscreen dispensers throughout Miami Beach for everyone to use.

For those interested in some free protection from the rays, the dispensers will be located at public pools, parks and various beach access points near lifeguard stands.

"As the fun and sun capital of the world, people engage in the many outdoor activities available from relaxing at the beach to playing on our courts and doing so unprotected can lead to sunburns, which is a major cause of skin cancer," said Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales.

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and accounts for nearly half of all cancers in the United States.

The sunscreen in the dispensers is part of the city's official sun care line, called MB Miami Beach Suncare. The product inside the dispensers will be their Triple Action Sea Kelp sunscreen with SPF 30. The lotion protects against UVA and UVB rays and is water -resistant for 80 minutes.
The launch of the program serves as a gift to the community just in time for the city's centennial on March 26th.
"Public safety is priority and we're offering this amenity because we care," said Morales.
