HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Six people, including a child, were rushed to the hospital after a car collided with a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue truck on Thursday.

The impact sent one of the vehicles crashing into a fire hydrant.

“It was horrific, water spraying all over like a flood,” said Sharon Gyle, who heard the crash and ran out of her home to help.

Three fire fighters were trapped inside of the overturned truck.

“They were fighting their way out,” said Gyle.

Melvin Smith was driving in the area when he saw the crash.

“I saw the car coming down the street, ran the stop sign, hit the ambulance,” said Smith.

Smith told CBS4’s Travell Eiland he gave police officers a wrench to break the trucks windshield so the fire fighters could be pulled from the truck.

Then witnesses noticed the three people were trapped inside of the car as well.

Gyle said they heard a little girl in the back seat of the car crying for help and it appeared as though the impact knocked her out of her car seat.

“I don’t know what happened with the impact but she was in the corner on the ground,” said Gyle.

Investigators said the driver of the mangled silver sedan car caused the crash after he tried to speed off from a traffic stop.

“They couldn’t get the guy out because he was stuck underneath the wheel,” said Colin McLean.

All six people were rushed to the hospital, but all are expected to be okay.

The fire fighters suffered minor injuries to their chests and shoulders. One of the fire fighters was released from the hospital on Thursday night. The other two were being kept for observation.
