MIAMI (CBSMiami) – South Florida resident Robert Van Winkle, also known as Vanilla Ice, has been arrested, charged with burglary and grand theft.

The Lantana Police Department investigated a residential burglary  which occurred sometime between December 2014 and February 2015 in the 100 block of N. Atlantic Drive in the City of Lantana.

Numerous items, including furniture, a pool heater, bicycles and other items were removed from a home that is currently in foreclosure.

While investigating, police noted that Van Winkle, once a rapper now a real estate flipper, is renovating the home next to the property in which the items were stolen.

Police obtained a search warrant in unincorporated Palm Beach County at a home under the care and control of Van Winkle. In the home, several of the stolen items were recovered, according to Lantana Police.

Police said the property was identified by the victim at the home and was returned to the rightful owner.

Van Winkle voluntarily met with detectives at the Lantana Police Department to provide a sworn statement.

Based on evidence collected, witness statements and corroborating statements, he was taken into custody. He posted bond late Wednesday night and told reporters ” this is blown out of proportion and its a shame good news doesn’t travel this fast,” said Van Winkle.

Van Winkle is charged with burglary residence and grand theft.

A friend of the former rapper told reporters this incident was being blown out of proportion.

“Its’ a misunderstanding. Rob is inquiring about the property and is seeking out to purchase the property and some communication wires got crossed. It will all be worked out as soon as lawyers get a hold of it and take care of it,” said Wes Kain.
