MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami Police  have taken two High School students into custody after there were reports that the pair brought a gun to school on Thursday.

The two people under arrest, a 19 -year old girl and a 16-year old boy, are students at Green Spring High located at 3555 Northwest 7th Street.

The school received an anonymous tip Thursday morning about a 19-year old girl with a gun.

The principal confronted the girl, checked her purse and found a loaded gun in the purse.  That's when the principal called police.

Investigators said the gun was not hers. They believe the 16-year old boy gave her the gun to hold while they were in school.

The girl was seen being walked out of the school in handcuffs and put into a Miami Police car. She is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen weapon and bringing a weapon on school grounds.

Officers were then seen placing a purse into the car and later putting a gun into an evidence bag. An officer was also seen counting at least six bullets that they took out of the gun. Investigators said the Glock was stolen out of Miramar.

The 16-year old  boy was also seen being taken away in a Miami Police car. He is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and bringing a weapon on school grounds.

The young man and woman claim the gun is not theirs.

CBS4's Travell Eiland spoke with a student at the school.

"This is the first time this has happened. I mean I am just… I wouldn't say shocked but surprised I guess," said student William Mercado.

"Not nervous about it?," asked Eiland.

"Not nervous. We have metal detectors. They make you empty your pockets and you have to keep walking through it until you don't beep," said Mercado.

The student went on to say if a gun had been snuck in, "he probably jumped over the table on the side, pulled a slip while nobody was looking."

The principal of Green Spring High School said the two suspects will be expelled from school, even though he said they did not threaten anyone with the gun.

The school is sending a letter to parents to inform them about the incident.

The school has security and metal detectors and officials said they are investigating to find out how the gun made it on campus.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
