HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson will be honored by the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital on Thursday.

Johnson has been selected to receive the Joe DiMaggio American Icon Award.  He becomes the second person to receive the annual honor after it was bestowed upon former President Bill Clinton in 2014.

A presentation will be held during a hospital fundraiser taking place at The Diplomat Resort & Spa on Thursday night.

Johnson will be introduced by author and entrepreneur Miguel “Mike” Fernandez and the event will be emceed by former Miami Marlins great Jeff Conine.

Several local and national sports celebrities are expected to attend the event.
