Sunrise Fire-Rescue Unit Crashes On The Way To Hospital

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – While taking a patient to the hospital, a Sunrise Fire-Rescue unit got into an accident, injuring four in the process.
At around 11 a.m., the rescue unit was headed to the Broward Medical Center when they crashed at N University Drive and W Oakland Park Blvd.
Sunrise Fire-Rescue Chief James Dixon said three firefighters in the rescue unit, along with the driver of the other car, were injured.
The person being taken to the hospital was taken in another rescue vehicle to the hospital, and Dixon doesn't believe the person suffered any additional injuries from the crash.
The firefighters were taken to the hospital as well for a checkup, but there injuries were not significant.
The extent of the other driver's injuries have not been released.
Dixon said he's unsure of what actually happened in the crash and could not elaborate since it is an active investigation. However, he did say the crew had their lights and sirens on during the transport.
Sunrise police has taken the lead in the investigation.
