Traditionally the event is held around New Year’s, but was moved to the Thanksgiving weekend for the second year in a row to allow greater participation from local schools and youth groups. This is also the second year that the parade is being held at night instead of during the day.

CBS4’s news partner the Miami Herald reports this year’s theme is Route 66.

The parade’s chairman Sam Burritt said the theme is meant to reflect wholesome small-town-America.
