GIBSONTON (CBSMiami/AP) – A toddler is in stable condition after she was bitten by a dog.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Cristal Bermudez Nunez said 2-year-old Alessandra Landrum was visiting the Gibsonton home of Brian Moore with her parents Sunday evening.

Authorities say the girl had been petting and feeding Moore's dog, a Labrador mix, earlier in the day.

According to the sheriff's office, the dog bit the young girl in the head and face when she fell down in Moore's backyard.

Bermudez says the girl suffered puncture wounds to her hairline and face.

Animal control took the dog into custody.
