MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Throughout South Florida, drivers and those who use public transportation may be affected by some major closures this weekend.

"It's horrible, horrible," said Jose Larrinaga.

Barricades, detour signs, and lots and lots of slow moving traffic made the weekend miserable for many drivers.

"Today was the worst," Larrinaga added. "Closures everywhere, everywhere, everywhere, everywhere."

The westbound Dolphin Expressway ramps to the Palmetto Expressway are closed over the weekend among other road closures throughout South Florida.

The closure started at 10 p.m. on Friday. They will reopen on Monday at 5:00 a.m.

Westbound drivers on SR 836 going north to SR 826 can:

  • Make a slight left to NW 11 Street

During the closure, contractors will pour concrete for a new bridge and let it cure.  The work is part of the SR 826/SR 836 Interchange Reconstruction Project.

The exit ramp from westbound State Road 112 to NW 36th Street will be closed for temporary retaining wall construction and delivery of construction materials on Saturday and Sunday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night.

Detour:

  • Continue straight to NW 36th Street

Also, all eastbound travel lanes on NW 12 Street between NW 82 Avenue and Milam Dairy Road will be closed until 5 a.m., Monday, November 10th.

Eastbound drivers will be guided:

  • East on NW 25 Street

  • West on NW 25 Street
  • South on NW 82 Avenue to connect with NW 12 Street

The southbound Milam Dairy Road right-turn lane to westbound NW 12 Street will be open.

The closures will allow the contractor to install a 48-inch force main.

In Broward, drivers on Florida's Turnpike won't be able to exit at Hollywood/Pines Boulevard this weekend.

The northbound and southbound Turnpike exit ramps will be closed 9 p.m. Friday, November 7th through 5 a.m. Monday, November 10th. The southbound SunPass-only exit ramp to westbound Pines Boulevard will remain open.

Drivers can exit at Griffin Road, then go east to U.S. 441 and then south to Hollywood Boulevard.

The ramp closures are needed for removal of concrete barrier wall and had been initially scheduled for the weekend of October 31st.

The work is part of a project to convert the Hollywood/Pines Boulevard and Griffin Road interchanges to all-electronic tolling.

For those who take the Metromover, the system will also be closed for the weekend due to repairs and track work.

"It's an inconvenience, in a way, but at the same time they're trying to help us out with the buses," said Fredy Alvarez.

Transit officials urge drivers to be aware of the closures and leave plenty of extra time when heading out.

"Make sure that you know the information that you follow the signs," said Oscar Gonzalez with the 826/836 project..  "Make sure you follow the speed limit; you don't want to go to fast through a construction zone or an area that has road closures.  You want to be safe not just for yourself but those workers that are working on the roadway."
