MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police are searching for two armed women who broke into a home at 1223 NW 28th Street in Miami and terrorized the family inside.
They even threatened to kill a toddler and an infant during the robbery.
Shock and fear coursed through Natalia Alcantara and her husband Maynor Martinez when two armed women that they say they’ve never seen before started screaming while waving a gun and a knife at the family inside their Miami home at 4:30 Monday morning.
Natalia immediately grabbed her two month old daughter Irina and cradled her.
She told CBS4’s Natalia Zea in Spanish, “As a mother I just wanted to defend my children. I didn’t move at all so they wouldnt threaten the kids.”
But she said the robbers did threaten them. They pointed the gun back and forth between Irina and one and a half year old Ickert Martinez while demanding money and valuables.
Maynor told Zea, “I was scared because they were going to do something. (The women) were drugged out and I thought they were going to shoot the kids. I told them to please be calm for the babies, but they didn’t care.”
The family said the women must have used something to pry open a door. Once inside, they grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and quietly made their way into the house, all the way into the bedroom where the family was resting.
The family said they didn’t know they were in the home until they were already at the foot of their bed.
Maynor rushed to give the robbers everything he had – $300 in cash and the couples’ cell phones.
He is thankful no one was hurt and now the family is desperate for police to find the robbers because until they do, they say they can’t sleep and won’t rest easy that their children will be safe.
The couple says the women are in their late 30s, had dark complexions, and one of them had a growth on her neck.
Anyone who can assist police in identifying the women is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
