BSO Deputy Arrested, Charged For Accepting Sexual Favors

BROWARD (CBSMiami) – A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested Monday for not arresting a woman in exchange for sexual favors.

BSO said on July 13, 2013, Deputy Ted Arboleda met a woman at a Dania Beach gas station who did not have a valid driver license, was in possession of marijuana and an unlabeled bottle of prescription medication.

The woman reportedly told the deputy she was on felony probation and offered him money not to be arrested.

According to authorities, Arboleda did not take the money and instead returned the drugs to her, allowed her to leave her car at the gas station and gave her a ride home.

"It's very uncommon for a deputy to take a suspect home in lieu of arrest," Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters. "It's problematic to say the least."

Once at her house, an investigative report says Arboelda "asked the woman if she was going to let him in." BSO says the woman allegedly offered him oral sex and he accepted.

According to the report, Arboleda said "he had never done anything like this before."

After the sex act, "Arboleda then stated that he could not believe he agreed to the sex act and told the victim not to tell anyone," according to the arrest warrant.

Arboleda left without arresting her, BSO said.

Sheriff Israel said the woman's boyfriend contacted detectives to report the incident last summer. Israel said the case casts a negative light on the agency.

"We're not going to tolerate this type of behavior," said Israel. "I'm very disappointed to have be here today. It's discouraging. It's demoralizing to the 99.9 percent of the men and women who work so hard and so diligently but I am proud of our Public Corruption Unit and we'll move forward."

Arboleda was placed on administrative duty on August 19th, 2014.

He was arrested Monday on one charge of unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior, a second-degree felony. He has been suspended without pay. BSO's internal affairs investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who believes he or she may have been a victim of Arboleda should contact BSO's Internal Affairs Office at (954) 321-1100.
