Man Accused Of Robbing Davie Woman Of Casino Winnings

DAVIE (CBSMiami) - A Broward judge denied bond for a man accused of following a woman home from the Seminole Classic Casino and robbing her of thousands of dollars of winnings.

During his appearance in court, 23-year old Del'Jimmyo Wright-Johnson told the judge he was a college student and also held down a full time job.

"I go to school at Nova Southeastern University and I'm also a security officer," Wright-Johnson told Circuit Judge John "Jay" Hurley.

"You're a security officer," asked the judge.

Davie police said a review of the casino's security cameras revealed that Wright-Johnson was watching as the woman won big at a Baccharat table Wednesday and when left with approximately $8,000 in casino chips. On the video, Wright-Johnson can be seen following the woman out of the casino and into the parking lot.

He then followed her to her home in Davie, according to police. The woman told CBS4 that she had the feeling she was being followed on her way home.

"By the time I get into Stirling (Road), I'm aware some car is following me," said the woman who did not wish to be identified in this report.

The woman said when she got home, a man dressed in a white t-shire and gray athletic shorts approached her and said "Excuse me man," according to Wright-Johnson's arrest report.

"I got out of my car which was 30 feet from my front door. I walked as fast as I could. I ran to open the door, I'm was in the door but he already got to my front door," said the woman.

She got the door opened, b but said she couldn't close it in time.

"He wrapped his hand and we both pull and he strong enough and pulled the door out. I was standing right here, he punched me on the shoulder," said the woman.

She said the attacker had aimed at her face, but she moved just in time.

The man then yanked her purse from her and ran to a car.

"I had $8 thousand chips from the casino which I had not cashed out yet and %300 to $400 in cash in there," said the woman.

It was the chips that reportedly tripped Wright-Johnson up. After the robbery, the woman called the casino to tell them what had happened.

"Normally, I don't keep that much, I cash out," said the woman. "Luckily I didn't cash out for cash. If I had cashed out for cash, he'd never gone back to the casino."

According to police, Wright-Johnson came back to the casino a short time after the robbery and tried to cash nearly three grand in chips. When the cashier asked for ID and more information, he went to his car to get it. When he returned, a Seminole police officer was waiting for him.

Police were able to identify Wright-Johnson as their main suspect from the casino's security video. They also reportedly found the woman's purse in his car.

According to court records, Wright-Johnson was out on bond on a grand theft charge. In June, he was accused of grabbing more than eight grand in chips right off a table at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino.

Wright-Johnson's attorney told the judge the woman The defense pointed out the woman never positively ID'd his client as her attacker.

The judge, however, said he was convinced Wright-Johnson needs to stay behind bars.

"The court's concerned for the community, especially for the people who patronize the Hard Rock," he said.

A casino spokesperson told CBS4 News they are cooperating with police and he credited the casino security officers with not allowing Johnson to cash the chips and helping Davie police nab him.

Johnson was given a $250-thousand bond for this latest incident but was denied bond for being arrested for this while out on bond for the arrest.
