Fla. Education Board Wants More School Funding

TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) - Florida's state board that oversees the states' schools wants a boost in school funding for 2015.

The State Board of Education voted Monday to ask state legislators for an approval of a $19.6 billion budget for Florida's public schools. This includes a $232 increase in per-pupil funding to match what Gov. Rick Scott has already proposed on the campaign trail.

The budget proposal also mirrors Scott's push to double the amount spent on digital learning initiatives.

The request will not be considered until state legislators review it during the 2015 spring session.

The funding does require an additional $382 million come from local property taxes.
