MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Paramedics treated patients on the sidewalk and street after police said 15 people were shot at a Miami nightclub.
When Miami police and rescue crews arrived at a club called The Spot around 1 a.m., they said they found chaos among the large throng of adults and teenagers gathered there. Rescuers found wounded people inside and outside the club, some too hurt to flee, Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said.READ MORE: FHP Confirms Fatality After Tanker Truck That Drove Off Highway In Davie Catches Fire
Some people were running, “people were screaming, people were saying they were shot,” Carroll said, adding others were yelling for help for friends who had been shot.
“All the sudden I heard about 15 to 20 shots then again another 15 to 10, another 20 then like about 30,” said a man named Prentice who heard the gunfire.
In all, he estimated that he heard 100 shots about 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Ambulances arrived one after another at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
By morning, a table with alcohol and cups remained outside The Spot at NW 7th Avenue and 64th Street. Evidence markers and investigators surrounded the club trying to piece together what happened Sunday.
“It’s very early in the investigation detectives are out there, they’re questioning everybody,” said Frederica Burden with the Miami Police Department.
She said it was not immediately clear how many shooters were involved or what prompted the violence. Police had not made any arrests as of Sunday afternoon, and had not publicly identified any suspects.
Investigators are interviewing the club owner to determine what type of club The Spot is and why so many underage children were there, said Burden, who noted that she had never heard of the venue despite having worked in the neighborhood for years.
While police began their investigation, family and friends arrived at the hospital to check on the victims.
“It’s sad man, you know. I just hope he keep his head up and pull through,” said Shay, 20, who didn’t want to give her last name.
“It was just a shootout he got shot multiple times,” she said.

The rest of the victims were stable and some were released from the hospital.
Many of those shot were teenagers. Police say the youngest victim was just 11-years-old.
“That was a concern of ours as well the age that was involved,” added Burden. “What we’re thinking at this point is it may have been a private party.”
Some people familiar with the club said young people were allowed inside the club and that makes them even angrier.
“What was you thinking man? It’s a kids’ club what was you thinking shooting it up,” said Shay, adding, “It’s just sad man, real sad, because it could have been me that was there just trying to get away.”
Over the phone, one woman told reporters that she’s furious about what happened to her nephew who was injured in the shooting.
“I just want justice for Travon and I want justice for the rest of those kids and their families who had to go sit at trauma last night for their kids being injured,” she said.
“What was very surprising to the responders was that these were kids that were out at 1 o’clock in the morning in a club and this type of violence took place where a bunch of kids were gathering … it’s very disturbing to see that,” Carroll said.
Fire Rescue officials also will follow up with the venue to determine whether it’s a teen club, whether it’s licensed as a club for regular gatherings or whether this was an informal event, Carroll said.
A phone number for the club was out of service.
Anyone who has information on the shooting can call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
