City Of Tallahassee Pays $475,000 in Settlement

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - During an arrest last year, Tallahassee police left a woman with a broken bone in her face. Now the city is paying $475,000 to settle the case.

On Monday's vote, city commissioners settled the federal lawsuit filed by Christina and David West against the city and the Tallahassee Police Department.

In a video showing Christina West's arrest, police are seen slamming her into a police car before throwing her to the ground. West can be heard screaming in the video.

A city attorney acknowledged the video "was difficult for all of us to see" but noted that the incident prompted changes at the department including the hiring of a new police chief.

A grand jury ripped the Tallahassee police for how it handled the arrest.
