DORAL (CBSMiam) — Doral will be the new spot for the Miss Universe Pageant in 2015.

On Friday, the City Council approved a $2.5 million stipend for the pageant’s organizing body, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.

Mayor Luigi Boria told the paper the pageant will be,”an important economic stimulator for the community.”

The event will be held January 18th, 2015 at the Trump National located at 4400 NW 87th Ave.

The topic was voted on during a special session where three voted for the pageant and 1 voted against it.

Boria, councilwomen Sandra Ruiz and Ana Maria Rodriguez voted in favor while Vice Mayor Christi Fraga voted against it.

Fraga told the paper she wants the pageant but was against using municipal money for it.

Borida said of the $2.5 million, the city will give $500,000 to organizers of the pageant that is owned by Donal Trump.

The remaining $2 million will be provided later by private donors.
