Search Resumes After Bodies Found Off Hollywood Beach

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - The search continues off Broward's coastline after four bodies were found floating in the water off Hollywood Beach Sunday morning.

Coast Guard crews said they received a call around 10:00 a.m. from a boater who said there two bodies floating in the water 20 nautical miles east of the beach.

"Once the Station Fort Lauderdale crew arrived on scene, we got a report from a second good Samaritan that a second body had been located," said Chief Petty Officer Ryan Doss with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Crews found two additional bodies 15-20 miles off Hollywood Beach. Late Sunday night, officials said the bodies were all those of men. None were wearing life jackets.

Authorities had also hoped debris floating near the bodies could shed some light on their identities, but it was determined the debris was trash and not linked to the bodies.

"We have not been able to locate a vessel of any type out there so we're unsure of where these individuals came from or how long they'd been out there," added Chief Petty Officer Doss.

It's not clear whether the men were migrants.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is assisting in the investigation.
