MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) —Two men and a dog are now safe after being rescued from a boat fire in the Florida Keys.

The Coast Guard reports the vessel fire happened about eight nautical miles southwest of Marquesas Key Thursday evening.

The men told authorities the fire started in their boat’s engine room and quickly spread throughout the entire vessel before it sunk. Both the boaters and a dog aboard the vessel evacuated into a dingy to escape the fire and were recovered by a good Samaritan.

The good Samaritan reported the incident to Coast Guard Sector Key West, which responded to the scene.

No one was injured in the blaze.
