City Closes Douglas Park Due To Contamination
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A popular park was closed Friday as recent samples revealed "the presence of some contamination," according to the City of Miami.
The city, in cooperation with Miami-Dade County's Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM) closed the park due to the potential for contamination.
Property records and DERM's recent sampling revealed "some contamination," as written in the press release, at Douglas Park 2755 Southwest 37 Avenue.
"We are working with several agencies to guarantee the safety of our residents and visitors to this and all other parks in the City of Miami," stated Mayor Tomas Regalado.
Several other area parks have been tested and samples did not reveal similar concerns.
"As we have in similar situations, the City will take the necessary steps required of us by Miami-Dade County's Department of Environmental Regulation (DERM) and the Florida Department of Health," said District 2 Commissioner Marc. D. Sarnoff. "We pledge that the City will remediate Douglas Park and make it safe for people to enjoy once again."
