BSO Holds Operation Medicine Cabinet

NORTH LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) – Have you cleaned out your medicine cabinet lately? If you live in Broward County, today is the day to turn in unused or expired prescription medication—you can even get some cash.

Broward Sheriff's Office is holding Operation Medicine Cabinet prescription drug "take back" event in North Lauderdale Saturday.

By unloading and making room in the medicine cabinet, while supplies last, those participating will receive a $5 gift card.

The sheriff's office is also holding a Shred-A-Thon, where residents can dispose of their personal documents, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts and any other paperwork that has sensitive information. The service is free of charge, but there's a limit of five boxes per person.

Authorities say the shredding events began in the county in 2008.
