TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) – A skydiver’s intended free-fall ended tragically when authorities say his parachute failed to deploy during a jump in southwest Florida.

The victim, an unidentified male, died on the scene after attempting a maneuver near Topp of Tampa airport on Saturday, according to Pasco Sheriff’s officials.

The pilot of the biplane landed safely in Wesley Chapel.

Authorities are investigating. No other details were released.
