Panthers Goalie Has "Slightly Pulled Groin"

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Panthers knew signing a 39-year-old goalie who had been out of hockey for a year was a big risk. Tuesday the risk didn't pay off as goalie Tim Thomas suffered a "slightly pulled groin," according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The Philadelphia Flyers scored its two goals Tuesday night against Thomas before he left a little over halfway through the first period. Jacob Markstrom came in for Thomas and stopped all 17 shots he faced through the rest of the game.

It's unknown how long Thomas will be out, but the team is planning on recalling veteran goalie Scott Clemmensen from San Antonio to backup Markstrom, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Thomas had never lost to the Flyers before last night and only gave up an average of 1.86 goals per game.

The Panthers will next travel to Tampa for a game Thursday night before coming back to Sunrise for the home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night. Florida plays seven home games through the end of October.

Overall, the Panthers are 1-2 on the season and have been outscored by opponents by an 11-5 margin.
